SYMPTOMS OF PATELLOFEMORAL ARTHROSIS

  • joint pain: pain occurs when exerting pressure on the affected joint, when walking, and decreases at rest. Characterized by evening and night pain after a day's exercise. Sometimes, joint pain is intensified under the influence of meteorological factors (low temperatures, high humidity and atmospheric pressure, etc.), causing an increase in pressure in the joint cavity
  • the crunch in the joints
  • difficulty when walking up the stairs, particularly when lifting
CAUSES OF PATELLOFEMORAL ARTHROSIS

  • family history
  • irregular shape of the joint
  • overweight
  • excessive load on the joints
  • several types of sports: athletics, rod, soccer
  • joint injuries
  • other diseases.
DIAGNOSIS of OSTEOARTHRITIS PATELLOFEMORAL

TREATMENT OF PATELLOFEMORAL ARTHROSIS

Conservative treatment: injections of platelet-rich plasma, hyaluronic acid, bone marrow aspirate, and chondroprotectors into the joint.

Surgical treatment: knee arthroscopy

Our Medical Center uses "minimally invasive" surgical techniques. These are low-trauma operations that do not require large incisions, as with a normal surgical intervention. Local mini-punctures are performed in the joint area up to 1 cm in size, which makes it possible to injure the patient less and significantly reduce the period of stay in the hospital.

Among such minimally invasive methods, arthroscopic debridement of the joint occupies a special place. The essence of the method is to "clean" the joint under arthroscopic control. After a few punctures, the destroyed parts of the articular cartilage are removed from the joint, and the edges of the healthy cartilage (on the border with the damaged one) are stabilized so that the cartilage is not damaged further. Then the bone is processed in such a way that new cartilage is formed. Also, with limited defects, it is possible to make special "patches" on the cartilage with a special liquid (Chondrofiller liquid) for the most complete restoration of the cartilage.

Physical therapy

One of the main methods of treatment of patellofemoral osteoarthritis is physical therapy. With the help of special exercises, it is possible to compensate for the irregular shape of the joint, strengthen the muscles and remove the load from the joint.
