Deforming arthrosis of the knee joint (gonarthrosis)

A full range of orthopedic services, from diagnosis to full recovery

Osteoarthritis is a chronic progressive joint disease characterized by damage to the articular cartilage, with subsequent changes in the bone, synovial membrane and ligaments. The disease develops at the age of 40-50 years, and women get sick twice as often as men.

SYMPTOMS OF OSTEOARTHRITIS

  • Joint pain: pain occurs when exerting pressure on the affected joint, while walking decreases at rest. Characterized by evening and night pain after a day's exercise. Sometimes joint pain increases under the influence of meteorological factors (low temperature, high humidity and atmospheric pressure, etc.), which cause an increase in pressure in the joint cavity.
  • Stiffness in the joints:in osteoarthritis, stiffness in the joint lasts up to 30 minutes, unlike rheumatoid arthritis (more than an hour).
  • The appearance of a crunch in the joints< / li>
  • Joint swelling & nbsp;< / li>
  • Formation of nodules in the area of the interphalangeal joints of the hands (Geberden or Bouchard nodules), leading to persistent deformation of the small joints of the hands and metatarsophalangeal joints of the first toes
  • Difficulty walking on stairs, especially when descending down
CAUSES OF OSTEOARTHRITIS
  • excessive loads on the joints
  • certain sports: athletics, barbell, football
  • joint injuries
  • other diseases.

WHAT JOINTS ARE DAMAGED IN OSTEOARTHRITIS?

Osteoarthritis can damage any human joints, but the most common injuries are the knee, hip, shoulder, hand joints, and ankle joints.

DIAGNOSIS OF OSTEOARTHRITIS
  • doctor's assessment of clinical symptoms
  • radiography of altered joints
  • Joint MRI
  • Joint ultrasound
TREATMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS

  1. Conservative treatment: tablets, ointments, injections, injections into the joint
  2. Surgical treatment: arthroscopy, joint replacement
  3. Physiotherapy: magnetic therapy, ultrasound therapy, electrotherapy, shock wave therapy
TREATMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS IN OUR MEDICAL CENTER

Conservative treatment

Injections of long-acting glucocorticoids (diprospan, depo-medrol).

Intra-articular administration of hyaluronic acid preparations.

Intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (growth factors) are a modern and most effective method of treating osteoarthritis. The high effectiveness of this treatment method is due to the action of growth factors-special molecules that play a fundamental role in the healing processes of injuries to muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. Growth Factor Injections not only reduce pain and inflammation, but most importantly,; they start the processes of regeneration of damaged tissues, stimulate the synthesis of components necessary for healing and restoring the structure of tissues, restore the integrity and strengthen the strength of muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones.

How are growth factor injections performed in our medical center?

The production of platelet-rich plasma (growth factors) takes place directly in our medical center. For this purpose, 20 ml of the patient's blood and a special centrifuge are used. Blood sampling is carried out in special test tubes, which are immediately placed in the device.

From 20 ml of blood taken, about 5 ml of platelet-rich plasma is obtained, ready for administration to the patient.

The preparation cycle of the drug is closed, which eliminates the contact of blood with the external environment, and, consequently, any infection. Next, the doctor injects the resulting plasma directly into the patient's damaged area. In our medical center, the injection of platelet-rich plasma is carried out under the mandatory control of ultrasound for more accurate penetration into damaged tissues.

All intra-articular drug administration in our medical center is carried out strictly under the control of ultrasound, which guarantees accurate penetration into the joint cavity and the introduction of the optimal dose of the drug.
Intra-articular injections are performed by highly qualified orthopedists with extensive experience, in sterile conditions and in compliance with all safety rules for the patient.

If conservative treatment does not give the desired result and the signs of the disease increase, then the only way out for the patient is surgery.

Surgical treatment

Our medical center uses "minimally invasive" surgical techniques. "Minimally invasive" techniques are low-trauma operations that do not require large incisions or opening of the joint, as with conventional surgical intervention. Local mini-punctures in the joint area up to 1 cm in size are carried out, which allows to injure the patient less and significantly reduce the period of stay in the hospital.

Among such minimally invasive methods, a special place is occupied by arthroscopic debridement of the joint. The essence of the method is to "clean" the joint under arthroscopic control. After a few punctures, the destroyed parts of the articular cartilage, "broken off" parts of the bone and other inflammatory elements get out of the joint. Most often, this operation is used in the first stages of the disease.

Another method of surgical treatment that we use is corrective osteotomy. Compared to arthroscopic "cleaning" of the joint, the effectiveness of osteotomy is usually higher. When performing this operation, the bones are sawed with a special tool and fixed again at a small angle, restoring the correct axis of the limb. As a result, the distribution of mechanical loads in the affected joint changes, which leads to a significant reduction in pain, improved mobility in the joint, and a slowdown in the progression of osteoarthritis.

In the more advanced stages of osteoarthritis, joint replacement is performed in our medical center.

Physiotherapy treatment

Physical therapy significantly enhances the effect of other methods of treatment, reduces the risk of complications after surgery, and helps to shorten the recovery period. In our center, such procedures as magnetic therapy, ultrasound therapy, electrotherapy, shock wave therapy are available.
