Hyaluronic Acid Injections
Most often, intra-articular therapy with hyaluronic acid preparations is used in combination with other conservative treatment methods: tablets, ointments, conventional injections, etc. It significantly reduces dependence on analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, has a long-term therapeutic effect, slows down the rate of progression of osteoarthritis and allows joint replacement surgery.
What is the therapeutic effect of hyaluronic acid preparations based on?
Hyaluronic acid is part of the synovial fluid of a healthy joint and is a natural structural component of articular cartilage. With osteoarthritis in the synovial fluid of the joint, the concentration of hyaluronic acid decreases, which leads to an increase in friction in the joint, an increase in degenerative changes in the cartilage. Intra-articular administration of hyaluronic acid preparations has a positive effect on metabolic processes in the tissues of the joint and in the cartilage: sodium hyaluronate forms a protective film on the damaged cartilage that protects the cartilage from further destruction and improves the sliding of adjoining cartilaginous surfaces. In addition, hyaluronic acid preparations penetrate deep into the cartilage, improving its firmness and elasticity. Thanks to hyaluronic acid, the cartilage, "dried up" and thinned in arthrosis, regains its shock-absorbing properties. As a result, pain and stiffness in the joint decreases, function and range of motion are restored.
In which joints can hyaluronic acid preparations be injected?
Hyaluronic acid preparations can be injected into almost any joints in a person, but most often they are injected into the knee, hip and shoulder joints.
